Couple who served in WWII together, married for seven decades, pass away on same day

The greatest love stories don’t take place in Hollywood, but in the lives of ordinary couples who have extraordinary love for each other. Those doubting that need look no further than this couple, who died within hours of each other after more than 70 years together.

Isabell Whitney and Preble Staver met on a blind date in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where they were studying in the early 1940s. The seed of love was planted, but it would take time before it could fully blossom.

World War II was raging in Europe and both Isabell and Preble joined the Allies’ effort against the Nazis. Isabell worked as a Navy nurse stationed in Maryland, and Preble became a Marine and earned a Bronze Star for his bravery.

Five months after the war ended, Isabell and Preble were finally married on February 15, 1946.

It was the beginning of a beautiful seven-decade marriage that ended as beautifully as it started.
After Isabell and Preble Staver were married, they had five children together. Isabell raised them and was the rock of the family as Preble transitioned several times in his career. The couple were there for each other when their son Peter died tragically playing football in his senior year of high school.

When the children were all grown up, Isabell went back to nursing.
The couple’s daughter Laurie Staver Clinton, now 62, described her parents to People magazine.

“They were great people. Mom really taught me that you can’t change another person but you can change your attitude towards them,” Laurie said.

“Dad was a bit of a prickly pear! Dad was the strict one. Mom tried to be strict, but we knew what we could get away with her. It was pretty much a father rules the roost sort of thing.”

In 2013, the couple moved into a long-term care facility in Norfolk, Virginia after Isabell was diagnosed with dementia.

Seeing his wife battle with dementia was frustrating for Preble, and sadly he and Isabell had to be placed in different rooms. Fortunately though, Isabell still remembered him.

“Sometimes, we’d have to tell her to focus and look but when she looked and knew it was dad, she’d get that little smile,” Laurie explained.

As his 96th birthday was approaching, Preble made a moving request. He asked to have one more nap with his wife.

The staff made arrangements for the couple to lie beside each other for a few hours.

Laurie said: “There was not a single word spoken between the two of them. They held hands and just fell asleep. I told dad, ‘This is mom’s birthday present for you.’ He was just so happy that he got to take his nap with her.”

A few days later, on October 25, Laurie was told that it was time to say goodbye to her mother.

She brought her dad in with her so they could say their final farewell together.

“He held her hand, and it was just so tender. I asked him if he wanted to stay after the prayers, and he shook his head. I said, ‘Okay, but you know that means you’re going to have to let go of her hand?’ I was crying, and he was crying,” Laurie said.

Isabell passed later that day and Preble followed her hours later.

Amazingly, the couple, who were born 14 days apart, died just 14 hours apart.

Laurie shared the secret to her parents’ 70 year marriage.

“Mom and dad really lived out that, if you make a commitment, and even though life gets rough or life gets in the way, you work through life, and you live your life together.”

Isn’t it amazing that Isabell and Preble were there for each even down to the last hours?

Toddler Walks With Hands In Air Towards Armed Police After Parents Were Arrested

Oh don’t they start them young over there.

Normally this is a phrase best used to describe a child being able to do things well beyond the expected levels of capability, like reading a book designed for elder kids or getting them to go to the shops to get your bits.

Unfortunately in the States, this means children know how to put their hands up when police are pointing guns at their parents.
Tallahassee police were arresting a couple suspected of shoplifting when the disturbing footage was captured and posted to Facebook by a concerned bystander.

Because the suspects were reported armed, the police were armed with pistols and rifles.

The video shows cops surrounding the vehicle outside a department store in Florida, MailOnline reports.

After the child’s father was detained by police, the video shows the tense moment the little one clambers from her seat and out of the vehicle while cops keep their weapons trained on the truck.

In the video a voice says:

She’s trying to get out but she can’t because she’s little. She is out. Oh, she’s holding her hands up. Oh my God, look at that. Oh my God.

‘They’re still holding the gun at the baby,’ says one person watching it all unfold. The other says ‘No, they’re holding the gun at the car.’

Police allowed a woman, reportedly the mother, to hold her and the other child as they dealt with the situation.

TPD Chief Michael DeLeo said footage from 10 body cameras was reviewed, according to the Tallahassee Democrat.

Police have released bodycam footage on the City of Tallahassee Police Department Facebook page showing the efforts made by officers to be compassionate towards the children in the tense situation.

TPD Chief DeLeo said:

The body camera footage shows the officers’ concern for the children and their compassion as they permitted the mother to care for the children,’ DeLeo said.

The mom, who is a suspect, asks an officer to hold her 2-year-old as she retrieves the infant from a car seat.

I am proud of how officers handled the situation, how they adapted when they became aware of the children, the level of concern and compassion they showed to the family.

8 siblings dance for bride at wedding – little brother’s moves have everyone applauding wildly

A wedding is an occasion all of the family get to enjoy.

From doting mothers to proud fathers, from drunk aunties to irresponsible uncles – weddings often reunite families that can otherwise struggle to see each other. Of course, certain members of the inner-family of the groom or bride often have responsibilities to take care of.

For one bride’s siblings, that was certainly the case. They put together a performance to remember, delivering a lively dance routine to really get things going. What makes it so special, you ask? Well, this bride has eight siblings …

You read that right, eight.

The jovialities began when the newly wedded couple formed a circle for the performers. The bride’s brothers then danced to the Backstreet Boy’s classic “I Want It That Way”, culminating in a pose that saw all of them side by side with sunglasses on.

Next up were the girls. The bride’s four sisters performed “Tell Him” from the musical show Glee (originally performed by Linda Ronstadt).

What followed was the boys returning to take the floor, before the girls raised the roof with Meghan Trainor’s “Better When I’m Dancing.”

Saving best for last, though, the siblings banded together for the Indian song “Radha”. The crowd held their breath, wondering what the siblings would do next. Suffice to say they were not left disappointed.

What’s more, it was clear for all to see just what the dances meant for the bride and groom. The bride herself looked on the verge of tears multiple times, but managed to reign in her emotions. She was rewarded with a huge family hug at the end, one worth more than any material gift that could have been given.

Watch the phenomenal show in the video:

We know, it’s fantastic!

Daring duo approach angry animal stuck in bear trap, watch the fight this creature puts up

The beautiful bobcat is mainly found in North America, although it’s habitat is thought to stretch to the far south of Mexico.

It’s been around for 1.8 million years and adapts well to any surroundings, being an expert hunter wherever it chooses as home.

At the same time it’s a wild animal and rarely has any interaction with humans.

So the video you’re about to see is pretty special as a bobcat is captured on camera being rescued from a bear trap by a pair of animal heroes. However, the bobcat’s reaction is not for the faint-hearted.

Chris Ward was out hiking with his friend Aaron when they spotted a bobcat with its paw stuck in a bear trap.

They weren’t sure what the animal was at first, it certainly wasn’t a bear.

Slowly and cautiously they approached the trap and took advantage of what nature had to offer – namely, a large stick. Thankfully they caught the whole rescue on camera.

The bobcat, not being used to humans, tried to attack his rescuers who refused to give up, despite the animal destroying most of the stick.

Puts up a fight
Unsurprisingly the man responds to the bobcat’s feistiness with shock and some bad language slips out. But, I have to admire his determination to set this poor animal free despite the fight he puts up.

Watch the animal hero free this frightened bobcat in the video below and be warned there is some bad language.

Please share to pay tribute to all the brave animal heroes out there! You do a fantastic job for all of our four-legged friends.

‘The World’s Cutest Dog’ – Boo the Pomeranian, who had 17 MILLION social media followers, dies of a ‘broken heart’ aged 12, one year after his best friend Buddy

  • Boo the Pomeranian dog passed away Friday due to heart problems
  • He got ill shortly after his fellow canine friend Buddy died over a year ago
  • The pooch passed away in his sleep and his owner said ‘his heart literally broke’
  • A Facebook statement read: ‘Our family is heartbroken, but we find comfort knowing that he is no longer in any pain or discomfort’
  • The account with over 17 million followers shared a post from ‘Boo’s humans’

Social media sensation Boo the Pomeranian dog passed away Friday due to heart problems he started experiencing shortly after his fellow canine friend Buddy died in 2017.

The news was confirmed on the pooch’s social media accounts of over 17 million followers combined when his owners revealed the tiny pet got sick after his best friend lost his life.

‘With deepest sadness I wanted to share that Boo passed away in his sleep early this morning and has left us to join his best friend, Buddy,’ his owners posted on Facebook.

The author explained on the website: ‘Boo showed signs of heart issues. We think his heart literally broke when Buddy left us. He hung on and gave us over a year. But it looks like it was his time, and I’m sure it was a most joyous moment for them when they saw each other in heaven.’

Boo’s friendship with buddy began when he joined the home in spring 2006. The Facebook post detailed how Boo, who was born in San Francisco, refused to pose for pictures without Buddy.

Boo’s owners thanked Adobe Animal Hospital and Sage Veterinary Centers for taking care of the pair before they passed.

However the family who refer to themselves as ‘Boo’s humans’ resigned: ‘But it looks like it was his time, and I’m sure it was a most joyous moment for them when they saw each other in heaven.’

Remembering a decade of ‘adorable mischief’, the family fondly shared how ‘over the years Boo met some super cool people, a lot of crazy talented people, but most of all so many kind people…’

Those included the likes of news anchor Anderson Cooper, singer Liam Payne or One Direction fame and fashion designer Tory Birch.

The dog’s carers are certain they’ll be reunited with him in the afterlife: ‘Boo, we love you with all our hearts and will miss you until the day we meet again.’

During his years on Earth, Boo released his own book, titled Boo: The Life of the World’s Cutest Dog. The 2011 career achievement was one of many for the public figure that also boasts approximately 540,000 Instagram followers and 4,000 fans on Twitter.

Dog spent 4 years chained up in the bitter cold, unloved by owner and attacked by other animals

There is no doubt that dogs are the most loyal and loving animal companions for us humans. Some people choose to have dogs to help protect them and guard their homes. But in many cases it is more effective to install an alarm.Unfortunately when dogs are bought just for security they’re not always treated with the love they deserve.

This was the case with Diesel the dog. He was a big dog who lived in Yukon, Canada where his owner left him chained outside through summer and winter for four years.

His owners had grown tired of him and wouldn’t let him in the house, he was dying of the cold, had health problems and was vulnerable to attacks from other animals.
Diesel had to endure a life that no dog in the world deserves. For four long years he was subjected to the bitter winter in Yukon where temperatures can dip as low as 40 below.

To tolerate the cold Diesel alternated which legs he put down to give his paws a break from the ice cold ground.

In addition to suffering the terrible cold he was also attacked by other animals. Other dogs took advantage of him because he was tied up and too weak to defend himself.

Once even a horse kicked him in the head, which broke most of his teeth and split his tongue.

The blood you can see on his shoulder was caused by a fight with another dog.

Thankfully help was at hand. When it looked like Diesel’s days were numbered Animal Advocates were asked to help.

The organization flew Diesel to a rehabilitation center in Vancouver where he was neutered, had a benign tumor removed and his jaw examined. Understandably, Diesel was afraid of people, but over time he began to trust them.

He underwent an intensive training program and his guardians made sure he was accustomed to humans, men in particular, and other animals.

At dog training camp he instantly made friends with a dog called Romeo, who had been rescued from a pound.

Find out more about the extensive work these animal lovers did to help Diesel recover from his traumatic experiences chained up.

It gives me great joy to know that Diesel was saved from such a nightmare. A nightmare that no dog in the world should have to endure. The animal lovers who rescued Diesel are real heroes. Let’s help pay tribute to them by sharing this article.

Breakthrough: Scientist on verge of curing Multiple Sclerosis for 2.3 million patients

More than two million people are affected by the dilapidating disease multiple sclerosis, often referred to as MS.

MS affects the nerve cells in the brain and the spinal chord and symptoms can include double vision, blindness, psychological issues, or muscle issues.

In some cases, MS can be fatal and life expectancy is shortened. Although there is medication to help alleviate the symptoms there is no cure for the disease.

However, a scientist in the U.K. has made a major medical breakthrough in finding a cure.
Dr. Su Metcalfe, from Cambridge based company LIFNano Therapeutics, has found a way to halt the attack on the nerve cells.

With over 2.3 million people with MS around the world, a cure for this terrible disease would be a medical marvel.

High drug costs
“Some people get progressive MS, so go straight to the severe form of the disease, but the majority have a relapsing or remitting version,” Dr. Metcalfe told the Cambridge News.

“It can start from the age of 30, and there’s no cure, so all you can do is suppress the immune response, but the drugs that do that have side effects, and you can’t repair the brain. The cost of those drugs is very high, and in the UK there are a lot of people who don’t get treated at all.”

“I was looking to see what controls the immune response and stops it auto-attacking us,” she explains.

“I discovered a small binary switch, controlled by a LIF, which regulates inside the immune cell itself. LIF is able to control the cell to ensure it doesn’t attack your own body but then releases the attack when needed.

“That LIF, in addition to regulating and protecting us against attack, also plays a major role in keeping the brain and spinal cord healthy. In fact it plays a major role in tissue repair generally, turning on stem cells that are naturally occurring in the body, making it a natural regenerative medicine, but also plays a big part in repairing the brain when it’s been damaged.

‘Double whammy’
“So I thought, this is fantastic. We can treat auto-immune disease, and we’ve got something to treat MS, which attacks both the brain and the spinal cord. So you have a double whammy that can stop and reverse the auto-immunity, and also repair the damage caused in the brain.”

This talented neuroscientist, who is also working on cures for Psoriasis and diabetes, is hopeful that with enough funding she and her team can find a potential cure for MS by 2020.

Please share this article so more people know about this exciting piece of medical news for all MS sufferers.

Pictures of this baby went viral thanks to her amazing hair – now she’s landed a modeling contract

I often marvel at a baby born with a full head of hair. It can be the case that their impressive mane goes eventually falls out and is replaced with new hair.

In the case of Baby Chanco, her amazing locks are very much here to stay. The Japanese baby went viral last year after her mom Mami Kano posted pictures of her on Instagram.

Now at just 12 months old she’s landed her very own modeling contract, much to the delight of her adoring hair fans.

The social media account, called baby Chanco’s “hair diary,” got more than 300,000 followers in a few months.

“I’m so surprised with the reaction, but also very proud of the praise from many countries,” Kano told People magazine, adding that her girl has a “lighthearted smile and luxurious head of hair [that] doesn’t match her age.”

On Jan. 7, Baby Chanco appeared in Pantene’s new ad next to Japanese television announcer Sato Kondo, according to People.

“We went straight to her mother because Chanco’s personality and special character matches our image for women we want to support,” said P&G Japan haircare associate brand director Yoshiaki Okura, according to People magazine.

“We feel [Chanco’s] beautiful hair has strong power that makes people positively move forward,” she added. “And we also support her mother’s positiveness to post wonderful moments with Chanco.”

‘Full head of hair’

According to Popsugar, Chanco was born Dec. 23 Japan and “came out of the womb with a full head of hair.

Mom Mami Kano said she doesn’t plan on cutting her girl’s hair.

“I prefer to keep her hair long, and in the future I want to try some new arrangements, like braids,” she said.

Student with best response ever when a teacher questioned her drawing

Kids are wonderful.

They’re just delightful fun and I love the fact that they can be brutally honest and don’t really care if you get offended by their opinion.

It turns out they can be quite wise, too.

Below are some of the best responses of kids that will put a smile on your face and will remind you why we love them so much.

A kindergarten teacher was observing her classroom of children while they were drawing. She walked around to look at the artwork. As she got to one little girl who was working diligently, she asked what the drawing was.

The girl replied, “I’m drawing a picture of God.”

The teacher paused and said, “But no one knows what God looks like.

Without missing a beat, or looking up from her drawing the girl replied, “They will in a minute.”

A little girl was talking to her teacher about whales.
The teacher said it was physically impossible for a whale to swallow a human because even though it was a very large mammal its throat was very small.

The little girl stated that Jonah was swallowed by a whale.

Irritated, the teacher reiterated that a whale could not swallow a human; it was physically impossible.

The little girl said, ‘When I get to heaven I will ask Jonah.’

The teacher asked, ‘What if Jonah went to hell?’

The little girl replied, ‘Then you ask him.’

A Sunday school teacher was discussing the Ten Commandments with her five- and six-year-olds.
After explaining the commandment to “honor” thy Father and thy Mother, she asked, “Is there a commandment that teaches us how to treat our brothers and sisters?”

Without missing a beat, one little boy (the oldest of a family) answered, “Thou shall not kill.”

One day a little girl was sitting and watching her mother do the dishes at the kitchen sink. She suddenly noticed that her mother had several strands of white hair sticking out in contrast to her brunette head.
She looked at her mother and inquisitively asked, “Why are some of your hairs white, Mom?” Her mother replied, “Well, every time that you do something wrong and make me cry or unhappy, one of my hairs turns white.”

The little girl thought about this revelation for a while and then said, “Momma, how come ALL of grandma’s hairs are white?”

A teacher was giving a lesson on the circulation of blood.
Trying to make the matter clearer, he said, “Now class, if I stood on my head, the blood as you know, would run into it and I should turn red in the face.”

“Yes, sir,” the class said.

“Then why is it that while I am standing upright in an ordinary position the blood doesn’t run into my feet?”

Bobby shouted, “Cause your feet ain’t empty.”

Children were lined up in the cafeteria of a Christian school for lunch. At the head of the table was a large pile of apples. Someone had written a note and placed it next to the apples. It read, “Take only one, God is watching.”
Moving through the line, to the other end of the table, was a large pile of chocolate chip cookies.

One little boy wrote his own note and snuck it next to the cookies, “Take all you want, God is watching the apples.”
